Taser Trouble

How do you stop a criminal without killing them? There is an easy response to that a Taser. Tasers are electrical weapons that send great waves of electricity to stun a criminal or to stop someone right in there tracks.

Tasers originally came from a book called Tom A. Swifts Electric Rifle. But back in the 70s a man called Jack Cover built his own electric rifle and called it a taser. But now these weapons have come into question about there safeness and their power against criminals.

Originally the power of the tasers were only suposed to stun the criminals but now more voltage has been added to these weapons and they are becoming deadly to people. In America every 8 years 337 people die from tasers.

Families of people who have died by tasers are now taking legal action againts the police and the people who make them. Last year a 15 year old boy died at a skate park from a taser.

Kids Ads

You all know about ads that come on television at dinner time, and how they just about make you buy the product. Now these ads are dominating kids channels. Many people don’t know that these ads are making our country obese. Kids fitness levels are takinng the toll from these ads. Studies show that 3/10 of kids are now overweight. If these ads keep showing up on kids channels that fraction will increase, but they’re is an organistation called ACMA who wantion to stop these ads.

ACMA stands for Australian Communication Media Authority. This group of people make all the ads on television appropriate for people to watch, or to even stop these ads from going on the channels. Right now ACMA has been in a two year battle against the government to stop these junk food ads from going on at dinner time and on kids channels.

My thoughts about this argument are the food ads on television should be banned because studies show that Australia is the most obese country in the world, But if we put more healthier advertisements on television channels we will reduce that number dramatically, and it will raise our awareness for being healthy.

Chook The Lyrebird

Recently at the Adelaide Zoo they’re has been some construction workers around. They have come here to build an enclosure for the two panda bears called Wang Wand and Funi, but now because the workers are here a strange little lyrebird called Chook wants to be like one of them.

Chook can make sounds that that workers would hear all the time. Like a drill, hammer and a whole range of construction sounds. Lyrebirds can mimic what ever they want, but these sounds that they mimic only come when it’s in their mating season.

Lyrebirds have a strange feathery tail that moves and rattles around. The name lyrebird came after a musical instrument called a lyre. A lyre looks alot like a small harp and makes a beautiful sound. Also another place you would see a lyre bird is on a ten cent coin.

Little Chook is about thirty years old and he hasn’t found a mate yet but if he hangs in they’re long enough i think he will find one. Lyre birds are like an excavator, they’re digging machines. Not many people know about lyrebirds but after this i think everyone will be talking about them.

Swimsuite Glory

Recently the FINA swimming championships has bees held in Rome. Every two years this event takes place. Many new competitors join this competition to make new records, but now the brand FINA has invented a new speedy swimsuite.

This new swimsuite is a bit like a light wetsuite. Its not absorbent like other swimsuites. It also keeps the air inside to keep the person floating on the surface and making their strokes faster. This new swimsuite has just about dominated every event their is. Fourty nine world records have been broken in the championships. The new impermable swimsuites cut throught the water like scizzors and dont have much drag.

Many people don’t like the idea of these swimsuites. Because most of the records might not be beaten again. Most of the previous world record holders are upset and angry about these suites. They have talked to the swimming officials, and the officials agreed that by the end of 2009 these suites have to be band.

My thoughts about this argument is that they shouldn’t be band because if they kept these suites going  everyone will get one and it will just about be even again, and these suites are perfectly designed to enhance the performance of their str0kes.

Animal Cruelty

While people are sitting at their homes eating bacon for breakfast they don’t know how bad the pigs life would of been. A major Tasmanian beef supplier has been caught out. The pigs have been living in a small cage about 1 inch bigger than themselves. Their little piglets have to squeeze their heads through tiny gaps to just get milk off their mum. These harsh conditions make it  just about im possible for the pigs to live in. Also the conditions bring maggots and blowflies to come eat away at the pigs body.

Many find it horryfying and disturbing to watch or look at these pigs. That is why we have to start buying free range products. Free range means that the animal gets to live their lives out in the open before they get killed and eaten. The pigs grow bigger in small cages so as they get older they might be crushed to death. The piglets get to run around in a bigger cage. Free range also happens to chickens to. Because some chickens are caged in small areas. Most of the major brands are swithching over to free range so people can see that the pigs or chickens have lived a good life. But many of the baby pigs don’t get to grow up before they are killed.

Jumps Racing

Jumps racing has been around for 177 years. It started in Ireland when two men had a bet that they could race their horses from one church steeple to the other. They would have to go over every obstacle their is. Now Jumps Racing has spread all the way to Australia. But now Australia is starting to change their mind. There have been so many accidents that the only states in Australia aloud to do it is Victoria and South Australia. Mnay of the accidents are so horrifying that people dont go back.

Many of these horces are forced to run. No one can talk horse so many of these horses are basicly forced to die. While the horses are waiting to race all they do is just stay their and stand around. So basicly its the only time they can to run. Many of the horses injuries are broken legs or neck. Many people enjoy watching the races because normally its down to a cats whisker.

Many people come from around the world to watch the Jumps Racing. Also for gambling. This gambling business get million of dollars each year. Most of the money they keep themselves only about one quarter they give to workers.30 thousand people would normally show up to an even like this.Thats alot of money spent. Also many people spen money on beer. Most people would get drunk or go over the limit. But it Just must be heart breaking for all the carers of the horse.

Oil Spill

Last week a tragic thing happened off the coast of queensland. The oil spill. 31 containers of toxic chemicals fell off the Pacific adventurer. But one of the containers hit the fuel tank and all this thick gooey sludge called oil fell out. It released about 200,000 litres off oil out to the coast

Around 60km of coastline has been covered by this oil. Most of the area is not inhabbited by people. Some of the oil is still drifting out to sea to other parts of the globe. But thats not the only thing getting damaged its the animals.

The animals are in danger of dieing from the oil. Many birds, fish, turtles, dolphins, crabs and whales have been affected by the oil. But most of the animals that can be saved will be caught and cleaned up by vets.

The area will take a long time to clean up. The government will try their best to clean up this mess by employing people to clean up the beach. But the tourism will be affected to from the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast.

The insurance company of the pacific adventurer will be fined 1.5 million dollars and the captain an extra 500,000. But the government will guess that it will take about 700,000 dollars to clean up the mess. But the containers weren,t strapped in so it was the crews fault.

Drowning Danger

Every year in Australia at least fifty people die form drowning. All the life savers try their hearts out to save other peoples lives. But when surfers hop into the water their is another killer waiting A RIP!. A rip is easy to spot but most people dont know how to spot it.

A rip can take you out about two hundred meters. Their can be seventeen thousand thousand rips all around Australia at one time. But in one year the life savers saved seventeen thousand people from drowning. But their are a few ways you can spot a rip. Look for darker water and smaller waves.

Most of the people who are drowning get saved. But if a person cant breath the life saver will do cpr and bring them back to life. But for those who know the people who have drownd it is a terrible death.

Shark Attacks

Recently there have been many injuries caused by sharks. In Tasmania a girl called Hannah nearly lost her leg to a Great White Shark but luckily she didnt die.

The injury was so horrific that she had two hundred stitches. She was surfing with her cousin on a tasmanian beach when the five meter long Great White came from underneath and grabbed a hold of her leg.

Again in Sydney a man lost his hand to a bull shark. But it wasnt as much as a injury as Hannahs. Both of them said that the shark was doing what it had to do and we were in its territory. And they didnt want the sharks to be killed because they did what they have to do.

As we think of it you have a more likely chance of dying by a bee or a household pet than dying from a shark.

Bushfire Disaster

Last week was some of the hottest temprestures ever recorded in victoria. Over two hundred people died and still more fires rage on and that means more people will die. People have lost houses, cars and even pets. Men and women of all shapes and sizes have given away clothes, essentials and letting them stay with them in their houses.

The worst affected areas around victoria were Kinglake, Marysvill, Churchill and Wilsons Prom. Once you go up and see the scene all the houses are destroyed scattered dead bones lying around from humans and the cars have basicly melted. But as more fires pick up trees and undergrowth the more fast and fierce it will get. But so far only two arsonists have been caught one was even a fire man himself.

In the future towns folk of all thos areas are going to start build again and make it more safe around their house. They will rebuild their lives every step at a time. But it is just heart braking for the relatives who have lost their loved ones chairs are replaceable but people arent they have a heart.
