Swine Flu

In Mexico there have many case of swine flu so not many people are on the streets and city. As there is no confirmed case in Australia the government already has some plans in place if there is an outbreak.

Scientists think the swine flu started with a pig with the flu and at the same time the pig got the bird flu and got the human flu and that made the deadly swine flu. Australia has put in some heat cameras in place to detect the high readings of heat. Symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of influenza and of Influenza like illness in general namely chills, fever; sore throat muscle pains severe headache coughing, wealeness and general discomfort.

My opinion is the government is doing the right thing if there is an outbreak of the flu Australia is ready.

Oil Spill

Last week Cyclone Hamish moved down the coast of Queensland, whipping up huge waves. The Pacific Adventurer was on its way from Newcastle to Brisbane when it ran headlong into the huge waves.

Most of the affected areas don’t have many people living there so the animals are most affected, Around 200,000 litres of oil leaked into the sea killing wildlife like fish, sharks and whales. Over 60 km of coast line on Moreton Island was covered in oil. So the wildlife offers are working all around the clock to clean up the mess the government think that it will take a week.

I think that the government is doing the right thing about making shore that it gets clean up as quickly as possible its saving wildlife for the future and saving the economy.

Drowning danger

Most people think that deep, dark water is a good place to catch a wave into shore, but think again you’re actually going into a rip. Even when you swim between the flags you think that you’re safe from rips you’re not. If you are caught in a rip, stay calm. Tread water or float. Swim parallel to shore and catch a wave in. Or signal for help and wait for a lifesaver to rescue you. If you are a strong swimmer you can swim at 45° across the rip into the wave area, and then catch a wave back to shore. If you make a mistake and get caught in a rip, you can survive if you the stay calm, and float with the current. Swim across it not against it, raise an arm but make sure that your fist is closed so people do not think you’re waving to your mum. Float and wait for assistance.

Eddie Gilbert

Eddie Gilbert was famous for his bowling. He bowled a ball which knocked the bat right out of Donald Brahman’s hand!

Eddies greatest achievement was to be one of the best fast bowlers. He was able to make a fast bowl in 4 to 5 steps, where other bowlers needed a long run up.

Eddie Gilbert was some one who every body paid attention to. He was a person who kept trying and never gave up, even when he was accused of throwing the ball in a cricket match between Victoria and Queensland.

Hatchet

Brian feels that he is not himself; it is like he has an extra sense. He senses danger when it is about, it appears that his ears send messages to his brain. Brian knew of some foolbirds on the long arm of the lake, which could be a source of food but a sixth sense warned him there was danger. A female bear with cubs was behind Brian and as he turned saw four wolves over on the hill.
