Oil Spill

This week on BTN there was a story about the oil spill in Quensland. Over 200 000 litres of oil have been lost when a ship got hit by a massive wave produced by ‘Cyclone Hamish.’ Some containers full of hydrochorlic acid were lost over the side of the ship which hit the fuel tank causing a hole in it then of course the leakage.

Because this oil is lighter than watter it washed up onto Mortain Bay Island and the Sunshine Coast extremely quikly causing all seabirds, turtles and penguins to become coverd in this black, deadly, crude oil. In all 60km of coastline have been coverd with the clean up proses expected to take about a week to restore our coastline to it’s natural beutey.

Another problem is that the traulers can’t go fishing to catch the fish to sell at the markets to earn money for them and there families incase they hit the containers lost in the sea with there nets causing them to open up and leak the extremely toxic acid into the watter.

The Australian goverment are going to sew the boats insurance company $700 000 and posibly sew the captain a ferther $500 000. There are allso some parts of the coast that are to delicate to get heavy machinary in on top of them to help clean the oil away. These places may ether be wreked by the oil or bear the scars for ever.

Cricket Attack

This week on BTN there was a story about an attack in Pakistan on Sri Lanka’s cricket team. Some policemen were killed and some of the Sri Lanka cricket team are now in hospital with serious injuries, but the worst of all is their young star opener who was shot in the chest. All the players are expected to make a full recovery.

This is terrible for the Pakistanis because cricket players are like stars there no matter where they come from, and now all up and coming tours and series over there have been relocated to a secure country in the Middle East.

The Pakistani government have said they are certain they will find the people who did this and they will suffer the consequences and probably spend the rest of their lives in prison. There are two places the terrorists could have come from and the possibilities are Pakistan or Sri Lanka. The strike was probably to scare people into believing in their religious groups or to scare people into voting for their favorite governments.

Hopefully within the next few years they will catch the terrorists and prove that they have safe country for other teams to come back to and play in but until then there will be no more cricket in Pakistan.

Help At Healesville

After the bush fires on Black Saturday,at Healesville Sanctuary the intensive care unit is packed to the rafters with injured animals and orphans whose mothers have been killed in the fires. They have numbers of animals in their care at the moment from kangaroos and wallabies to gliders and possums. They have also been sending some animals to Melbourne Zoo for recovery programs.

There have also been animals coming to the sanctuary because they have almost starved because their main food source has been burnt to a crisp.

Hopefully for most of these animals there will be a happy ending with them going back to the wild and into their natural habitats, but for some they will either stay at the sanctuary or the zoo for the rest of their lives and there is probably also a countless number of animals still not found and suffering from burns. Most of these, if not found, will probably die.
