This week on BTN there was a story about the oil spill in Quensland. Over 200 000 litres of oil have been lost when a ship got hit by a massive wave produced by ‘Cyclone Hamish.’ Some containers full of hydrochorlic acid were lost over the side of the ship which hit the fuel tank causing a hole in it then of course the leakage.
Because this oil is lighter than watter it washed up onto Mortain Bay Island and the Sunshine Coast extremely quikly causing all seabirds, turtles and penguins to become coverd in this black, deadly, crude oil. In all 60km of coastline have been coverd with the clean up proses expected to take about a week to restore our coastline to it’s natural beutey.
Another problem is that the traulers can’t go fishing to catch the fish to sell at the markets to earn money for them and there families incase they hit the containers lost in the sea with there nets causing them to open up and leak the extremely toxic acid into the watter.
The Australian goverment are going to sew the boats insurance company $700 000 and posibly sew the captain a ferther $500 000. There are allso some parts of the coast that are to delicate to get heavy machinary in on top of them to help clean the oil away. These places may ether be wreked by the oil or bear the scars for ever.
