Hundreds of people are in hospital all over the world. It all started in Mexico and all the schools are shut down. It is easier for a virus to spread in Mexico because it is very cramped and the population is 5 times the amount than in Australia.

            The Swine Flu is a virus from pigs that have had the pig flu and then at the same time got the bird flu. Then they have got that same flu again and then got the human flu. Scientists are working hard to make a vaccine. The flu started with birds and then it spread to all animals. Now every animal has its own type of flu.

            Australian airports now have cameras that detect swine flu. The reason that it is so bad is that it is so different to our normal flu that our immune system is unfamiliar with it. To prevent this it is as easy as wash wipe cover, don’t affect another.

            Many people are trying to get in to Australia each day. But a lot of people don’t get in. a long time ago the government encouraged people to come over and live to build the population. Millions took up the offer and came to Australia. The tickets were very cheap and sometimes even free.

            The government will only let you in if you have a good reason such as if there were war in your country and you wanted peace. The other way to get in is f your work will be helpful to Australians.

            I think that everybody should be able to get in if they have a good reason. It would be terrible if you were stuck in your country while war was going on

The oil spill in Queensland is putting sea animals at risk. Fish are suffocating and birds’ feathers are getting damaged. The ship that caused this is called The Pacific Adventurer. It was sent out during cyclone Hamish. The waves were too strong caused a hole in the oil tank and spilt everywhere. Oil is lighter than the water so it floats and moves along the water.

            The insurance on the ship had to pay $1.5 million and the captain had to pay $0.5 million   .The ship lost 20 000 L of oil. This was the biggest environmental disaster in Queensland. The company that had the oil spill is being sued by the government.

            I think that it was not a good idea to send the ship out during the cyclone. The harsh weather could have done anything. They should have thought about what they were doing. I think that it is terrible what has happened.

Rips cause about 50 deaths each year and 15000 rescues. To look for rips you get on higher land and look in the water for a dark passage where there will be no waves. Then you have found your rip. Rips are so strong that an Olympic swimmer could not swim against it.

            When you are caught in a rip just stay calm and let it take you out. It will eventually stop taking you out when it gets to the head of the rip. Then just swim to the side and swim back to shore. When you are on holidays always read the signs and ask locals about the beach you are swimming at. Be sure that you know what your local beach is about so if anyone asks you, you can tell them.

The Orang-utans live in the jungles in Asia off the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. The Orang-utans are near extinction. Workers are bulldozing all the trees down where the orang-utans live. They cut all the trees down and plant palms. They get palm oil out of these plants. Palm oil is used in products such as shampoo, food and drink.

I think that it is terrible that people are cutting down the trees. They should find some other oil so they don’t have to cut down the trees or find a different place to plant the palms that are not endangered.
