B.T.N ~ Immigration Down.

We’ve always encouraged others from different countries to live in Australia. And that’s why we had 150,000 people settle in Australia last year. But that may not be the case anymore, because the Government is cutting down on immigrates through the tough recession. Which people are losing there jobs and don’t want immigrates getting jobs that Australian worker might need. But others say that people from different countries might bye more from shops, plus would need a new house so builders would get work. And set up a new business which means they’ll employ workers and thats a great thing. And everyone knows it pays to have a job in these times.

B.T.N ~ Oil Spill

We all heard about Cyclone Hamish that hit Queensland’s coast and luckily most people weren’t affected. Except for a ship out at sea called the “Pacific Adventurer” it was on its way from New Castle to Brisbane and was faced with big waves that crashed into the ship and made 31 containers with chemicals in them go over into the sea one of these containers hit the hull and made a hole in the fuel tank spilling fuel oil. Around 200,000 liters of oil leaked, but the problem is that oil is lighter than water which causes it to float and can make it travel faster, approximately 60km of coastline had been covered like Moreton Island and the Sunshine Coast but there are not many people living in these areas, but the risk is more for the animals. There are a lot of people helping to clean all the oil off before it sticks and it’s a very hard job. Not just the animals need cleaning up, the beach needs all the oil cleaned up, it is estimated to take a week and will cost more than $700,000. There are also worries about the chemicals that fell into the water might harm the sea life too. The Government is billing the ships insurance company and has been given big fines. But a lot of people hope the animals are okay.

B.T.N=Drowing Danger.

When it comes to the beach not many of us no a lot about rips. and a lot of scientist that work on rips say that’s why there are so many rescues over 50 people die and 1500 people are rescued in a year. The scientists also think that number could be reduced if people new about them and what to do in a situation and how to spot them. What is a rip? it is when waves brake and the water is pushed toward the beach and piles up on the shore, to get back out to sea it rushes thruogh strong narrow channels of water called rips  The most dangerous thing is where they are placed, rips are where there are no waves and that can trick people because they think they have found the perfect spot that is nice and calm. There can be 1700 rips on a beach at one time so it would be easy to get caught up in one if you do the most important thing to do is not panic and don’t try to swim through the rip because they can flow faster than an olympic swimmer swim sideways. So make sure before you swim between the flags and if there aren’t any look before you hit the surf.

B.T.N=Animal Rescue

Humans aren’t the only ones at risk from bushfires, animals are also affected. Everyday people are finding animals either have got burn wounds or are starving from loss of trees and habitat. While most of the wildlife shelters have been destroyed by the fires the Hillsville sactuary is still up and running and are working full time trying to help injured animals, only to be released when they have healed. Because of very little food they will have to fight for it and  will make it harder if the animal has an injury. The workers can’t just put these animals anywhere in the bush because other animals are territorial and the animals will have to fight for acceptence. Most of the animals will have a sucsessful recovery.

So on Sunday they held a mourning service for all those fire victims to come together as a meorial for those who have been lost. This fire has had major rise in the childrens hotline, over 75%  increase of of kids calling over the fire period. To get over this horrible event people have been looking forward to the future and rebuilding houses and schools, there has been schools openend but some may never open again.

Some fires are still burning and but they hope it wont get dangerous. I think that what has happend is really upsetting and i hope they can get there life back on track.
