Pacific Brands is going Chinese! If you don’t know, Pacific Brands owns brands such as, Bonds, Clarks and Hard Yakka. That will cause job losses meaning a lot more poor people.
The reason is, the type of country. Australia is a consuming country, whereas China is a producing country. Pacific Brands say that they have to do it, because it allows them to survive and compete with other foreign brands. On the other hand there is a ton of poor people in China that badly need money. If Pacific Brands move, it will create more jobs to combat Chinese poverty. As well as that their clothes in Australia will be cheaper and remain affordable to more Australians. The down side to that is about 2000 aussies will lose their jobs, making the economy worse.
I think that they should not move to China. Firstly it will make the economy worse. Secondly about 2000 Aussies will lose their jobs. If they stay, it is okay, if they go Australia will suffer.

P.S. please tell me what you think, I am interested

Great Job Hugh,
Loved the way you explained the way that if Pacific Brands moves to China there will be more poor people in Australia. Oh and more thing, I think that Pacific Brands is wrong it won’t be bad if the brands are made in Australia it will be better because the economy will be better and again, got to love the report

Hi Hugh
I think this is a sensational way of expressing your opinion, taking an interest in current affairs and rounding out your literacy skills. Well done teachers and kids!
That was a great comment about PacBrands. I have some other angles of thought – what about the effect of media in elevating current affairs issues. For example, on the same day PacBrands announced their decision, Woolies announced another 7000 new jobs, Aldi announced another 1500 new jobs. There will be some opportunity for those people from PacBrands to be redeployed.
PS. You wear bonds jocks. Have a look at the tag – where are they made!
Well done Hugh. A structured and accurate report.
I am pleased you are discussing these stories with friends and family.
In that way we all develop a greater understanding of the many different angles and perspectives behind the issue.
Recently PacBrands received approx. $15 million dollars in Government assistance. Where has that gone? Where is the accountability? We may never know!!
