DROWNING DANGER

People are not being aware that you are more likely to drown than get attacked by a shark. Whole families are swept away and drowned in rips. Most people don’t actually learn to swim and learning to swim would save alot of peoples lives.

The number of drownings is around 50 a year in Australia and 15,000 rescues a year in Australia. Doc. Rob said that this could be prevented if we learned more about the beach. Rips are a constant threat to swimmers because they change spots every day and are hard to spot. Rips are fast flowing currents of water that let the water from waves, seaweed, sand and other rubbish out to sea. The things not to do are to panick or swim against it, should just swim to the side of the rip where the waves are white.

You should always swim between the flags and if there is no flags on the beach find the safest place on the beach and swim there.
