A Chinese Story

Princess

Shouts. Cries, The stamping of feet. Whips. I looked out the window. Blood leaked from the door bases. I ran to my layout of hay and picked up my little toy bear. I looked at it and started to cry. It was just a little cry. I lay on my back and closed my eyes, but it was impossible to sleep with the racket outside. Mum and dad were so stupid. And my brother couldn’t take care of me. So he sold me to the ruler of China for some money and that he didn’t have to carry one extra person, and I’ve been here all my life since then. If I could run out of the iron gates and into the forest, I would be free, alive, breathing fresh and natural air, and not have blood on my feet, back and hands all the time, and not to wake every morning as a slave. But the guards stood there all the time, and I coudn’t get out without being beaten to death. Then they would throw me out. I wouldn’t mind being thrown out, but I would mind them beating me. I’d seen photos of the outside when I was little, but I still remember them as clear as day. Sweet flowers, bees on them, The Great Wall of China, The Forbidden City and so many other places mother and father had been to. If only I could visit them, one day.

A little briefing on this:

I am willing to be an author, and I have an idea for a story. This is some of the first chapter (I might change it to a Preface) that I have written so far. It’s a story of a Chinese girl, (who doesn’t look it, she looks English or Australian) called Aaliyah who is put to work by, as above, the Ruler of China, (even if there is no ruler but there’s a king or something.) who doesn’t talk to the slaves at all, as he thinks the guards can take are of it all. Soon somene comes to take her away from all this, and she finds a nice fresh and open bungalow in the forest to stay. She learns how to sing and be positive. But a boy comes along and finds out who she is, but the housekeeper of Aaliyah’s is not entirely impressed by this boy and banishes him from seeing Aaliyah again. Aaliyah doesn’t know what’s happened to him and the housekeeper feels guilty for making Aaliyah feel unhappy. But in time, the two children meet up again and find out everything they will do and achieve together, even if that means, runnng away to the other side of the Great Wall, finding Aaliyah’s parents and, if needed, to go back to the danger zone where Aaliyah grew up. I will be attemping to write this tory under the same name, title and author that it is here. Hopefully I can publish this and publish more!

Thank you!!!!!!! :)

Imaginary Friends

If you went to see some teenagers perform for you you would think it was a bit strange if they started talking to their imaginary friends! Well thats what they are doing at Hawker College in Camberra. They are making up a play about Imaginary Friends and what happens to them when you forget them.

The play was written by Farnoush a student at the college. Now she and a classmate are directing the play. The whole play is for students the actors are students, the make-up crew are students even the backstage crew are students! Farnoush set up some auditions and they went through about two hours of casting!

While parents are getting annoyed by their children blaming a broken glass on a kid thats not their scientist have found out something different. They have found out that kids that have an imaginaryfriends are better communicators and more creative when they grow up!

Farnoush hopes her play will help adults remember what it was like to be a kid and maybe help parents be a bit more understanding about their kids imaginary friends. And that would help the kids alot to know that their parents understand.

Code Red

Recently in New South Wales there have been some bushfires and schools closing down. A new fire warning has been developed.

Schools have been closing down from the bushfires because they are getting a little bit worried. Now there is a new fire rating system. These rates from low to moderate, high, very high, severe, extreme and catastrophic or code red. Catastrophic weather conditions mean if the fire starts it won’t be able to be controlled and people can die it if they are in its path.

On a code red day the best thing to do is leave early before it all starts and get out your bushfire action plan. And if you do not leave well let’s just say you will burnt like toast. All of this was put to the test last week when South Australia was the first state in the country to experience a catastrophic or code red day. Schools were shut down for the day, buses stopped and kids had to stay at home for the day. New South Wales was also hit with code res and fires. As a heatwave hit the south-est of the country. The fire authorities reckon it could take years for the people to get their head around the new warning system, but hopefully it will save lives in the long run.

Saying Sorry to The Forgotten Australians

Last week there was a special ceremony in Canberra, where PM Kevin Rudd apologized to hundreds of   Australians that were treated awfully by teachers, nuns and caretakers at orphanages in Australia from the 1920’s to the 1960’s. It was a huge moment and made a lot of people pretty emotional – even though the events themselves happened more than 40 years ago.

These Australians were kids at the time. Some were in orphanages, often there would be a lot of kids squished in. Other kids were given to families to be looked after. There were lots of different reasons why they ended up there. Sometimes they were orphans; sometimes their parents just couldn’t look after them. Sometimes they were told their parents had died.

But it wasn’t just Aussie kids that were in conditions like these many of them were British children. You see their parents thought sending them to Australia would be better for them give them some good life skills and be better than living in Brittan. Many of the Aussie and British kids had horrible experiences. They were bullied or treated badly. It was also difficult growing up without a real family; they weren’t given much affection. That made it tough to look after their own kids when they grew up.

Back then there weren’t as many rules to protect kids but nowadays Because of the bad things that happened back then there are now a lot more rules to make sure kids are treated fairly.  I think the national apology was important for the Forgotten Australians and the Lost Innocents to recognise what they had been through. Even though all of them may remember those horrible times very well.

Sport Funding

Sport is a big part of Australian culture. It follows our tradition and lots of people do it. Some people play for fun, others train for seroious events like the olympics. Since the 1796 olympics when Australia won no gold medals, the Australian government has spent  lots of  money on sporting. They have built an AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) where athletes of all ages train. But some people critiscise that Australians spend too much for the olympics.

Australia is spending 80% of its funds for sport on the olympic games. Some people are think that the government should spend more on less funded sports that aren’t in the olympics like lawn bowls, golf, cricket and australian football. Or even on local sporting clubs that play a wide range of different sports.  Even though some sports like forse racing has loads of  fans, it gets less funding than those less popular sports like boxing and fencing. In fact water polo gets the same amount of funding as tennis, lawn bowls and golf combined. So that that is why people want a lot of this changed so sports that aren’t played in the olympics are fairly funded too. So instead of spending our money just to get gold medals, people say we need to spend our money on netball or soccer, sports that can acheive lots of participation aswell.

But some people disagree like John Coates from AOC (Australian Olympic Comitee). His opinion is that it would offend olympians very much. If we funded less in olympic sports Australia’s medal tally would go down rapidly. Also if they don’t fund thing like weight lifting, nobody will. He says that seeing as lots of olympic sports aren’t very popular they should pay more to motivate kids to do some of these sports and some of these popular sports like footy and cricket don’t need funding because they have enough money already.

I think that non- olympic sports should have increased funding because it’s not fair just to concentrate on the olympics. Whatever the outcome is the government will have made a decision by next year.

Endangered Birds.

In Australia 2/3rds of the birds are becoming extinct why you ask well I am here to tell you. Birds are becoming because of the lack of water and the lack of food. this is all happening because of the drought. The berries can’t grow because the trees don’t have water to grow so they can’t eat anything because no food is on the dried up trees that is why we ahve to try and save water were not the only ones that are suffering the drought animals are to.

Birds are just as imoportant as trees and plants you might not think so because plants and trees supplie food such as vegetable and fruits but still birds are just as important why am I telling you this because you are proberly watering your garden every day well why aren’t we giving water to the birds aswell why not put not put a water fountain out in your backyard I do’t think that, that would hurt anyone to put a lovely bird bath in your backyard  to save the birds.

I think that we should come up with a solution like for example I’ve got a birdhouse in my backyard with food in it for the birds and surprisingly all sorts of birds come i’ve also got a bird bath so the birds can wash and drink. If enough of us do this like have bird baths and bird houses  then we can save the birds from extinction and we can have them still flying around, chirping and brightening our days.

Sport funding

Today on BTN they were talking about sport funding. They said that 80% of sport money goes to Olympic sport. So people that do Olympic sport get a lot more money the people that do sport like football, tennis, golf, cricket football and basketball don’t get as much money but there is more population for football basketball. Yet the government gives the Olympic sports more money than non Olympic sports.

Some people think it is good because in 1976 Australia got 0 medals so they are putting in more money so they will be more successful and to make Australia more popular. Some people also think it is bad because they’re putting too much money into Olympics sports and they’re not putting any money in sports like football and basketball.

I think the government should give popular sports more money because they have put so much money into Olympic sports. So if they put more money into popular sports they might put bigger sports grounds in so they can even fit more people in to see a game of sport so what do you think they should do?

CODE RED:

Australians are thinking about code red. But some people aren’t getting the message. Code red is when Australian bush fires get out of hand; when you can’t control the fire.

People aren’t getting the message about code red because no one has informed them about it. Some people even arrived at school and got sent home. Adults can’t even go to work.

The government made this law because about 170 people died on black Saturday because they weren’t fire ready. But with code read there all different codes so people know when there’s going to be a fire.

I think by making the different fire planes it’s going to make Australia fire ready.

Forgotten Australian’s

There is a group of people that are called the forgotten Australian’s. What happened to these people when they were young was they were put in orphanages, some of the time the kids weren’t orphans their parents didn’t want to or couldn’t look after the kids so they were just put in orphanages.

Some children from Britten were sent to the orphanages in Australia because their family thought that they would have a better life here and some just didn’t want to look after the kids. The kids were lied to and they were abused. They will always remember their childhoods even though they will not want to think or remember their childhoods because they weren’t the best they could have had. If they have kids of their own they probably won’t treat them how they were treated but they might not know how to treat them properly and how to raise them.

Kevin Rudd gathered most of the people that suffered together to make a public apologue on behalf of Australia. A lot of people think that the people that suffered should get compensation but they haven’t got any money instead Kevin Rudd has organised for them to get someone that can find their relatives so they can be reunited with them. Being reunited with your relatives has to be better than money because you have family that you can spend time with and talk to.
